Healthy Feet Start with Healthy Foods

If you're like most people, you may take your feet for granted. But if you have foot problems, or simply want to keep your feet healthy and in good shape, then it's time to start paying more attention to them. And one of the best ways to do that is by eating foods that are good for your feet.

Believe it or not, what you eat can have a big impact on the health of your feet. So, if you're looking for ways to improve your foot health, start by making some changes to your diet. Here are a few pointers on how to get started that you can discuss with your doctor for your foot health.

Putting your best foot forward

Having healthy feet can be the foundation of your overall state of wellness.

When your feet are tired, inflamed, or achy, it can be hard for you to perform your daily activities, to exercise properly, and to spend time doing the things you enjoy. Just as there are foods that can promote healthy feet, there are also foods that can lead to health issues.1 That means it's up to you to seek out good food for foot health, and to avoid some of the foods which can harm your feet.

Health issues associated with unhealthy feet

Some foods cause inflammation in the feet3 which can lead to arthritis or plantar fasciitis. High blood sugar levels can lead to diabetes, and that can cause major harm to the nerves and arteries in your feet

Obesity is a condition often caused by overeating, and when a person becomes obese, their full weight is exerted on the feet, which can cause excessive pressure and pain. Osteoporosis is another condition that can cause problems with the feet. It often afflicts elderly people, particularly women, and can cause pain and even bone fracture in the feet.

Food for foot health

An overall healthy diet is a diet that is good for the feet. In particular, it’s important to reduce or eliminate food that cause inflammation. It is also important to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and a healthy weight. Since a lack of Vitamin D can cause osteoporosis and other bone problems, consuming adequate amounts of Vitamin D is beneficial for your feet and your body. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats and one that is low in highly processed foods and sugary beverages is key in keeping your feet and your whole body healthy. Speak to your doctor or a registered dietitian for tips on how to modify or improve your diet to achieve overall health, keep you moving and keep your feet fit and feeling good.  Be good to your feet

Remember, a healthy diet that is good for your overall health is also great for your feet.
